Spider Hardy Plant
A great plant to grow for beginners, the Spider plant is extremely easy to look after. Also known as Chlorophytum comosum, this house plant is fast-growing and incredibly hardy. It has striking variegated foliage and forms ‘pups’ when it is looked after well. These ‘pups’ are small spider-like plants that hang off long curled stems, almost like they are dangling from a spider’s web. These trailing stems make the spider plant perfect for placing on a shelf or in a hanging basket.
The Spider plant originates from the tropical rainforests of South America. It thrives in loam-based soil with an acidic pH and prefers bright, indirect sunlight. This adaptable trailing houseplant is fast-growing and can reach a height of about 20 inches. The little ‘pups’ can be easily rooted — either by pushing them into the soil when they’re still attached to the main plant or by separating them and then planting them in soil.
Not only does a Spider plant add a tropical vibe to your room, but it’s good for your well-being too. It releases oxygen into your surroundings and is known for its ability to filter toxins out of the air. This makes it the perfect choice for your live décor.
These plants are loved not only for their natural air purifying benefits but also because they "pup" and give you loads of little plants that you can grow into a new plant or allow them to grow on their "mama" plant.
